How are leaks formed?

Insights into Pool Leak
Causes and Origins

A typical pool will likely leak 1–3 times per every 10 years. It doesn’t matter if the pool was just built or if the pool has aged. Leaks are in the nature of a swimming pool. Lucky for you, you are here, and we will gladly help through the process of finding and fixing your pool leak.

A pool could leak 3 different ways: shell, pvc lines broken under the ground or via an equipment component leaking.

An equipment leak is usually picked up by the homeowner, since the pool equipment is visible to the eye, pipes, heaters, filtration systems and pumps could leak in several ways. Those leaks sometimes don’t tend to make a pool drop more than 1/4 inch or less per day, so if you’re out of that range and are loosing over this amount of water, most likely you have an equipment leak combined with a pool leak.
The second way a pool leaks, and this is the most common leak, is a shell leak. These leaks are located inside and near/around pool components such as drains, returns, lights, skimmer and tile bond lines, vacuum lines, fountain and others. These leaks are generally repaired underwater, the repair could be temporary or could last a few years. This will be discussed with our team, and we will guide you with the best option available.

The third way a pool could leak is in the pvc lines that run underground to bring and return water to the pool via it’s components. These leaks will need to be located underground by ultrasound device or even gas tracing equipment, once these leaks are narrowed down to a specific area, the area will need to be breeched, so the repair could be concluded under the ground.
